Web wrappers are everywhere, why is that?

Many of my favorite apps slowly started shifting away from native versions to a cross platform web wrapper slop, this really annoys me. Window’s version of WhatsApp used to be a beautiful native app (although it lacked a few features which I didn’t really care about) which was then ditched for a web wrapper version of the app. Obviously this meant we would have full parity of features across mobile and desktop but the amount of memory it consumes for a chat app is diabolical. While it can still be justified, same could not be said for productivity apps. A lot of the productivity apps out there are accessible as web apps, this includes stuff as simple as a pomodoro timer. Why the fuck do I have to open a chrome tab just to have a pomodoro timer running? While windows did end up adding focus sessions, it lacked customization and looked awful. This is why I ended up making Tempora.
